Definite Marks that define a Leader: Reflection and Journalling

Youths! Now that started on your journey to make a ultra-difference in your life, let me encourage you by this: the only difference between a 'normal', boring, common, usual, predictable, conventional, ordinary, stale, stagnant person and an exciting, anointed, fun-loving, lively, cheerful, dynamic, energetic, purposeful, visionary person is a life of REFLECTION!

I want you to know that what you are writing in that workbook is going to change your lives for the better in Christ! If you really are serious about life and wanting to make a difference, start this today! :) And I'm excited for you that you will live a life that you will never imagine! One that is so Full of GRACE and so Full of LIFE! Hallelujah! You have one life given in Jesus: LIVE IT! We are called to LIVE, not exist.

Pro 22:1 - A good reputation (character) and respect are worth much more than silver and gold. (CEV)

The word 'reputation' there in the Hebrew means CHARACTER. Today we are going to talk about what Character means. :) Character is impt to all of us, because Character is built through trust: that you are a person of integrity and trustworthiness that you become unshakeable, unmoving and dependable.

But to do that, let me show you something interesting. If we want to know what Character is, then we have to know what the definition of 'Cool' is today. A lot of youths and ppl in general will tell you that being 'Cool' means that you are untainted, unaffected, unmoved and undaunted by the circumstances and situations around you.

This is good but not entirely good enough. Let me show you an even more powerful way: Not only are you NOT affected and undaunted, you are ABLE to cause a positive CHANGE to the environment. That is way COOL man! :) No point being unchanged and the situation around you doesn't change: that is not cool. That is called apathetic or 'bo chup'. But when you are able to cause a CHANGE, that is what I call POWER!

To be 'Cool' is basically the new lingo for what it means to have CHARACTER. When you have character, you are unafraid to step up, to make a stand, to speak a word, to do an action, in order to change the situation, circumstance or challenge before you. And that makes you powerful, a person who others look up to and respect and admire. And that is someone that we all want to be in life. Nobody likes to follow losers: nobody likes losers.

The first way to be a person of Character is as simple as this: that you start to honour everything that you say. That will mean being a man/woman of your word, that your 'Yes' is 'Yes', and your 'No' is 'No', that whatever you say is true, whatever that you agreed to do you will do it, and whatever things that you mentioned that you will fulfil it. That you will not lie.The Jews never make promises. To them, if their every living word that they speak is not as good as a promise, then it is not good for ANYTHING. That is POWERFUL. Because when you can mean exactly what you say in ANY situation and fulfil it, it gives birth that confidence and certainty in you that even whatever you confess in His Word and in the Spirit, you are SO SURE that it will come to pass because you know the CHARACTER, the CERTAINTY and the POWER behind the word. :)

How can you be a person that people trust if you are not trustworthy and that you always tell lies, fail in keeping to your agreements or disappoint others? If whatever that comes out from your mouth is not backed up by your Character (hence you lie) that you will fulfil it, how can others trust you the next time? James 2:18 says clearly that action speaks louder than words. This means that your words are BACKED by you, that you will fulfil what you promised, do what you agreed on. To lie is to say that 'Lord, Your Work on the Cross is not enough to protect me, and I have to protect myself. Therefore I need to tell lies so that ppl will not be angry with me, or that they will be disappointed in me.' People tell white lies all the time to protect themselves. But if you are always lying, how can you trust your own word the next time? You can't even trust yourself... And you are shakeable. If ppl find out that you are habitual liar, is that why they CANNOT trust you or that they DON'T like to be near you?

Is building Character hard? You bet. It will mean sometimes that we need to stand up and speak against our friends (because we love them) such as when they are stealing or smoking. Sometimes it will mean being there all the time for CCA even though everyone doesn't attend or think it is uncool. Sometimes it will mean standing up for a cause that you believe and not be shaken from your position. And sometimes its being good at your studies but everyone in school (who are losers and are really bad in their studies) call you a nerd or apple-polisher. Losers want the rest to become like they are. Remember that.

Romans 5:1-5 - we know that tribulations (challenges) works patience in us, and patience brings CHARACTER, and character hope. And hope never disappoints because of the Holy Spirit in us, loving us and ensuring that everrything is in place for us. :) That Character that develops in you will cause others to respect you. And when your Character is built up, you will not know it but other ppl around you will know.Hence youths, in your every day situations, learn to be PEOPLE of your WORD, that your everyday life not a word is 'wasted' or 'worthless'. This is the start of your journey as a great leader in the Kingdom of God! Be blessed! :)

"People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care."

Have you ever observed that when some of your classmates are leading the group, or even your monitor or class chairperson speaks but no one is listening? Ever wondered why is it like this? And then you start to observe it when you are asked to lead, and NO ONE follows you at all? If these are the things that you observe around you and in your own life, then I will ask you this question: have you in any way showed them that you care for them? The people who you are leading?

There are so many ppl in our DG, thank God. :) But there are times when I ask each and everyone of you, what is this person's name, and you DON'T EVEN know. We have been DG mates for quite some time already! Half a year! You want to lead better, you want ppl to follow you, then it's time that you showed that you CARE for the rest. Do you know their name? Do you even know their school? Their CCA? Their hobbies? Their fav subjects? Their likes? Their dislikes? Favourite TV show? Favourite topic to chat about? The challenges that they go through? To the level they are appreciated by you, that will be the level that they want to follow you.

That is the basic principle of relationships as well. The reason why we follow Jesus is that He knows us intimately. He made us, He counts the hair on our head. And there is no incident or accident in our lives that He did not go through or did not know how we feel. He in all things has gone through the same testings and challenges that we go through. And He delivered us, that's why we will always have the way out: IN HIM. :)

When we bother to know one another, we are building emotional bank accounts with one another. There will be times we need to make 'withdrawals' from friends in that we may need their help, their encouragement, their guidance, their attention and time. But if you are ALWAYS making withdrawals but never bothered to put in any deposit, guess what? One day that 'friend' that you have will be so mad at you he or she will never talk to you again. We build relationships by building other people's lives as well. And it all starts by knowing them. :)

Something to shake the very foundations of our beliefs: we will never truly live life until we are living it for others. The irony about life is this: when we start fending for ourselves and taking care of ourselves, but trust God and take care of others, we truly then know what life is. :)

Life's short on earth. You can live to 120 years here, but splash that against eternity, it is shorter than your ride home. What do you gain by working so hard and trying to prove everything against everybody? What do you gain by just keeping to that few friends that you are comfortable with and not bothering to see the rest of the friends God is blessing you with that is around you in DG right now? Know why I always don't want you to stick with other groups and stick with your DG first? This is to allow you to open your eyes to the blessings God has given you. You want to mix with ppl of other groups? Mix with your own first. Only then you can venture out. But by then, probably you might not want to...

Extreme/EOC, you are personally loved by our Lord. Be filled with that Love and step out of yourselves and your comfort zones, and reach out to one another. :) I see our DGs being so full of His Love that we are supporting one another, helping one another, giving to one another until we are so individually rich! Spiritually, Intellectually, Emotionally, and Physically! :) This is family. We are in this together for eternity. Amen. :)
